What Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita Did in Cebu

In the two-day campaign sortie of presidential candidate Isko Moreno Domagoso and team Aksyon Demokratiko in the Cebu islands, many supporters asked, “Where is Doc Willie Ong?” Doc Willie Ong is the vice-presidential tandem of Domagoso, and he separately met with different groups around Cebu, together with senatorial candidate Carl Balita.

With many photos and videos about the crowded town hall meetings and concerts of Domagoso, people only spotted Ms. Samira Gutoc, Atty. Jopet Sison, and Bro. John Castriciones with Aksyon’s presidential bet. Supporters of Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita were puzzled about where are the two during those times.

Meet and Greet with Cebu Bloggers

On the first day of their visit, Dr. Balita sent a private message to me inviting me to join an event where they were going to talk with local bloggers. I was in Tinago Gym at that time waiting for Yorme Isko, and I was also expecting all of them to join him at that event. I honestly replied that I might not be sure whether to join them, but I’ll try after the Tinago event.

Meanwhile, concomitant to the Tinago gathering was a bigger crowd of supporters also assembled at the Guadalupe Gymnasium in Guadalupe, Cebu City. The wife and son of Yorme Isko entertained both the crowds in Tinago and Guadalupe.

Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita started the engagement with a group of Cebu bloggers (which I personally know) at 6:00 PM. That was the same time when the Tinago event ended, and the team of Domagoso formed a motorcade on the way to the Bilis Kilos ISKOncert Rally at Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita in Ramos and CBRC

I was able to take breakfast with Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita on the second day. I was expecting to join a caravan with them, but it was canceled due to bad weather. Instead, the two visited different groups of people to cope with the progress of the campaign in Cebu. On the other hand, I rejoined team Aksyon at the Radisson Blu Hotel and accompanied the squad at the ISKOncert Rally in Toledo City with Ms. Mocha Uson.

Concurrently, Dr. Ong and Dr. Balita met with a congregation in Brgy. Cogon Ramos. They also visited the CBRC Cebu Branch to greet the LET and CRIM students reviewing at that time. The two highly educated candidates are both advocates of better and quality education.

Doc Willie Ong and Carl Balita in Guadalupe and Basak

Early in the afternoon, they gave an audience to a group of supporters in Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu City before meeting some voters in Brgy. Basak, Lapu-Lapu City. This is a good way to have a heart-to-heart talk with voters who are longing to see new faces but are highly qualified candidates.

Honestly, Doc Willie Ong still has to establish grounds in Cebu where Sara Duterte has strong support. Sara’s strength in the Visayas region, not just in Cebu, is not only because she’s a Bisaya, but also because she’s the daughter of the incumbent Philippine president.

Nonetheless, the Ong-Balita duo, a.k.a. “Honest and Integrity Team,” is good enough to reach out to the unheard people in Cebu who are not used to attending big rallies.
