Cebu, Philippines — George Royeca, the first nominee of the Angkasangga Partylist, recently visited Cebu to advance their mission of creating stable and dignified livelihoods for Filipinos, particularly those in the informal sector.
Royeca’s visit reaffirms Angkasangga’s unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights, welfare, and recognition of informal workers—an often-overlooked yet vital segment of the economy.
“Our goal is to transform informal workers into entrepreneurs, or ‘nanopreneurs,’ by pushing for government policies that recognize and support their contributions,” said Royeca. “These individuals are the backbone of our economy, and it’s time we give them the dignity and opportunities they deserve.”
From Informal to Empowered
Angkasangga seeks to bridge the gap between informal workers and the formal economy by championing strategic legislation that creates sustainable livelihood opportunities. Their approach draws inspiration from the success of Angkas, a ride-hailing platform co-founded by Royeca, which has been instrumental in providing safe, reliable transportation and steady employment for thousands of motorcycle riders.
“Angkas has been a key player in Cebu, not just in mobility but in uplifting lives,” Royeca added. “By offering fair pay, benefits, and job security, we’ve transformed the lives of our biker-partners—showing that this model can succeed across other sectors.”
Expanding the Vision
Since its inception, Angkas has revolutionized ride-hailing in the Philippines, amassing over 8 million app downloads and empowering 50,000 biker-partners. Building on this success, Angkasangga aims to extend the same principles of fair treatment, protections, and opportunities to informal workers in other industries.
“Angkasangga is dedicated to replicating this proven model to benefit more informal workers nationwide,” Royeca explained. “We will push for policies that not only uplift livelihoods but also integrate these workers into the formal economy.”
Bridging Representation Gaps
The Angkasangga Partylist emphasizes its mission to provide a strong voice for informal workers, advocating for policies that foster job stability, livelihood enhancement, and economic inclusion. Royeca’s efforts signal a determined push to deliver lasting improvements to the lives of millions of Filipinos.
After the press conference, Royeca paid a courtesy call to Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia at the City Hall, facilitated by Former Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak. The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between local government units and Angkasangga in achieving their shared goal of empowering informal workers.
Through their platform, Angkasangga is poised to revolutionize the way informal workers are viewed and supported, ensuring they receive the recognition and resources necessary to thrive.
